Heather Huey combined her affinity for classical Hollywood style with her interest in material reuse to create her namesake line of hats and body accessories.

Huey studied millinery and tailoring at F.I.T. and accumulated many spare materials from past projects. These secondhand resources, as well as her lifelong love of mid-century silhouettes, help to inform her designs.

“I grew up watching The Golden Age of Hollywood cinema, especially the romantic films from the 1940’s and 1950’s, with my mom,” Huey said. “I envied their clothing, especially the hats. To me the hat was what made an already beautiful ensemble magical.”

All of Huey’s work is handmade in Brooklyn and ranges from embellished feathered headpieces to sculptural hand-pleated caps. It has been featured on many models and actresses and in magazine editorials ranging from Harper’s Bazaar to V Magazine. She doesn’t mass produce, opting instead to create one of a kind pieces to rent for shoots and events. When she retires them or needs to make room for new work, she’ll sell them on consignment or online.

“That way I know they’ve found a new home and will continue to be worn and cherished beyond my studio,” she explained.

Huey’s accessories appeared prominently in 2025, including in the Met’s Superfine: Tailoring Black Style exhibition book, in Christian Siriano’s SS26 NYFW runway show, and on stars including Greta Lee, Alan Cumming, and Mickey Madison. She hopes to keep the momentum going in 2026 as she continues to craft her romantic accessories.

“Being a freelance designer, I never know what exciting new project is about to come my way,” said Huey. “I’m grateful for any and all projects because I know these clients are coming to me specifically for the niche brand that I’ve developed.”
