Stylus, a new private members club in the Lower East Side, will showcase sound as a powerful vehicle for healing, entertainment, and connection.
Stylus will open this fall as a multifaceted creative and communal space with programming anchored in acoustics. The club plans to house an array of resources, including a multipurpose venue, a lounge, a green room, sound studios, and a kitchen helmed by Michelin-starred chef, Anita Lo.
Devin O’Neill, co-founder of award winning Brooklyn-based studio O’Neill Rose Architects, along with a roster of leading creative collaborators including Devon Turnbull (OJAS), Studio Sabine Marcelis, Friendly Pressure and Amadeus Acoustics, renovated and reimagined the property on 48 Clinton Street. Built in 1942, the building previously housed LoHo recording studios and later, The Blue Man Group rehearsal facilities.
Stylus will boast an expertly-engineered audio system that is adaptable to optimize the sounds being performed and played. Its rooms can be utilized as both creative and performance hubs, as well as meditative escapes. Its second floor will house a versatile recording/podcast studio and a green room. Meanwhile, a tranquil listening room will be located in the space’s cellar where members can partake 40Hz therapy. Exposure to the combination of 40Hz audio and light exposures is said to help sync brain waves, which can benefit cognitive function.
“The Founders dreamt of creating a space that felt like an extension of their home, one where they could connect to a community and gather with like-minded individuals who value experimentation and innovation in art and science and are inspired by intentional listening experiences,” said Stylus' Managing Director Luisa Gui.
In addition to its expansive audio-enriched programming, Gui and Stylus’ other core staff are looking forward to partnering with select curatorial advisors and cultural institutions to celebrate multicultural music and sounds from a broad range of genres and subgenres and spotlight niche and peripheral multidisciplinary artists
