After graduating from FIT, Dynasty Casanova began working in the fashion industry — and experienced firsthand how toxic and exploitative it can be. 

“This opened my eyes to the negative aspects of fashion and encouraged me more to start my own business, where I [could] set the rules and standards,” she explained. 

Having always wanting to start her own brand, Casanova combined her fashion prowess with her desire to design responsibly and created Dynasty George.

The brand creates beautiful, ethically sourced clothing for socially conscious customers. Designed locally in Brooklyn and produced by artisans in Latin America, the pieces are made to last a lifetime and circumvent conventional wasteful fashion cycles. 

Casanova’s colorful, ethereal pieces are inspired by films depicting fashion and femininity throughout different decades. She also draws inspiration from family members whose clothing helped shape her aesthetic.

“I grew up with My Puerto Rican grandma, mom, and aunt,” she said. “I would shop in their closets often and would upcycle their clothing.”

Once the garments are created, their leftover fabric is used to create totes, makeup bags, and other accessories to ensure less waste. The brand also donates a portion of its earnings to different causes. 

Casanova’s most recent collection “Beloved” was created with handmade and deadstock materials in India, and was inspired by the feeling of “falling in love after months of being apart.” Characterized by ruffles, soft shades, and floral prints, the undeniably springy pieces emulate the romance and rebirth of the upcoming months. 

Recently, Casanova also launched a Kickstarter for the brand, to help get more of her designs out to customers.

“I'm so excited because through Kickstarter we will be able to raise funds for production and mail out our beautiful dresses,” she explained.
