There are plenty spaces that sell, ship and mail plants — but Greenery NYC wants plant life to thrive in the places they put it.
Founded in 2010, the botanic design company creates green installations in homes and businesses. Using the burgeoning field of biophilic design, they carefully craft structures that create a connection with nature.
Plants aren’t just aesthetically pleasing — they’re air purifying and studies show they can positively affect our health and well-being. But the Brooklyn space does more than offer to set up a few potted plants for their clients. Their designers consider the climate (both literal and figurative) of each space to make sure that the plants they install can flourish there. From curated clusters to immense green walls, they make sure that the installations work in tandem with their environment. And once they’re all set up, they help maintain the them so they can be enjoyed for years and years.
Sustainable designs are also a priority. After being commissioned by Etsy HQ in 2016 to install and maintain a staggering nine floors of plant displays, the team was challenged to adhere to The Living Building Challenge’s standards, which rigorously measure the sustainability of a space. They rose to the occasion and developed a rain water harvesting/irrigation system to maintain all the plants. They also utilized their own growing systems to be low maintenance and low impact.
Along with Etsy’s immense plant displays, they’ve also designed for places like One Manhattan Square, Timberland on Fifth Avenue and Shake Shack’s headquarters.
Though they specialize in sprawling displays, Greenery NYC also lets people shop for smaller plants. Their offshoot Greenery Unlimited has a variety of different plants, tools and accessories that you can purchase online. And though there are plenty of sites to order plants from, they promise resources to ensure what you buy actually stays alive. They also recently opened an airy brick and mortar space on West Street.
